Walking and navigation video, at eye level

First-person footage of people walking through streets, buildings, stations and parks, filmed at eye level on smart glasses or a head mount. It shows routes, signs, doors, stairs and obstacles the way a pedestrian meets them, for navigation, accessibility and smart-glasses assistants.

The short answer

What is egocentric walking and navigation video data?

Egocentric walking and navigation video data is first-person footage of people moving through real places on foot, filmed at eye level from a camera they wear, and labeled with what a navigation model needs: routes, signs, crossings, doors, stairs and obstacles.

Navigation footage is about places more than hands. The variety that matters is cities and regions, indoors and outdoors, day and night, crowded and empty streets.

Public places bring more bystanders than any other first-person footage, so the brief has to settle where filming is allowed, how faces and number plates are handled, and what gets removed before delivery.

This category runs through our Data collection service, with objects and route segments labeled through our computer vision service. The egocentric video data page covers the devices and labels in full.

Details worth planning for

A short brief that answers these saves sending people back to film again. The egocentric collection guide has a template that covers them all.

Routes and places

Which cities, which kinds of places, indoors or outdoors, and how long each walk runs.

Conditions

Day and night, rain, crowds and empty streets, in the share your model will meet.

Bystanders in public

Where filming is allowed, how faces and number plates are handled, and what gets removed before delivery.

Data beyond video

Whether you need motion or location data with the footage. That depends on the device, so it goes in the brief early.

What gets labeled

Labels for this footage

The usual label set for this category. The set you get is agreed with you before labeling starts.

Objects in every frame

Signs, doors, stairs, crossings, vehicles and people, boxed with their class.

Route segments

The start and end of walking, crossing, climbing stairs, waiting and turning.

Tracking

People and vehicles followed with one id while the wearer moves.

Talk-through

What the wearer says about where they're going, transcribed with timestamps.

Where it's used

What this footage trains

Common uses. They show the kind of work, and they aren't client names.

Smart glasses assistants

Assistants that answer questions about the street or building the wearer is in.

Accessibility

Guidance for people with low vision that spots doors, steps, crossings and obstacles.

Indoor and outdoor navigation

Models that follow a route from the walker's view and know where they are.

What you get

What one delivered clip looks like

Each clip in this category comes with its labels, its keysteps, any transcribed speech and the details of who filmed it, where and on what device.

The example on the right is an illustration of the format, not client data. The fields, label names and file types are agreed with you before collection starts, so the delivery drops straight into your pipeline.

Files for each clip

Video
The first-person recording, as filmed on the smart glasses.
Labels
Boxes per frame for crossing, signal, sign, car 03, person 07.
Keysteps
The start and end of each step: walk, wait at signal, cross.
Speech
What the wearer says, transcribed with timestamps, when the brief asks for it.
Metadata
Contributor id, place, device, task and date, so you can split training and test data by person and place.

How it works

From your brief to reviewed footage

One named contact owns the project from scoping to the last file.

  1. Brief

You tell us the tasks, the settings, the device and roughly how much you need.

  2. NDA and scope

We sign an NDA before any data moves, then agree the scope with you.

  3. Free sample

We film a small sample free, so you can check framing and quality before you commit.

  4. Production

Contributors from our network film first-person, on the agreed device, to the brief you set.

  5. Review

Footage and labels are reviewed before anything is delivered.

  6. Delivery

The data comes to you, or moves on to labeling or evaluation with us.

FAQ

Questions about egocentric walking and navigation video

The egocentric video FAQ covers questions that apply to every first-person project.

Do you have navigation footage already recorded?

No. Footage is filmed to your brief: the routes, the places, the device and how much you need.

Which cities can you film in?

Our network is 30,000+ people worldwide. Tell us the cities and regions you need, and we'll confirm coverage before you commit.

How are bystanders handled?

It's settled in the brief before anyone films: where filming is allowed, how faces and number plates are handled, and what gets removed before delivery.

Can we try a small sample first?

Yes, a small free sample before you commit to the full brief.

Can this run alongside other egocentric categories?

Yes. Navigation footage often runs with shopping footage under one brief and one named contact, drawing on our 30,000+ person network and 150+ projects delivered to date.
